Lady Bug is playfully shaped like a simplified ladybug. It is a multi-person interactive sculpture where standing participants control the light show for participants lying beneath.
Standing four feet high “Ladybug” is a six foot round surface covered in buttons mimicking a ladybug's dots. The top surface is a glossy red, with black details, and black buttons.
Thin steel legs hold up the body, making it feel lightweight, while creating natural dividers for laying below.
Since those pressing the buttons can't see the lights, they are relying on responses from those watching underneath. It fosters a giving relationship rewarding the button pushers with feedback from the LED watchers.
The Lady Bug features over 750 individually programable LEDs that swirl in mesmerizing patterns. The eyes of the Lady Bug also cast fun disco patterns surrounding surfaces.
On top, the two arcade joysticks along with 10 arcade buttons create 18 individual inputs.
After debuting at a private festival in 2022,
Lady Bug has visited Burning Man (2022), Priceless (2023), and Burning Man Decompression 2023.
The body of the Lady Bug was created from CNC'd plywood that was laminated together to create housing for the electrical components.
The legs of the Lady Bug were welded from steel.
The parts of the Lady Bug separate into individual pieces which makes it perfect for transportation!
