The Arbor Lights are a semi-permanent environment installed along the waterfront outside of Chicago's Navy Pier. Consisting of hundreds of custom-fabricated LED leaves arranged amidst the tree canopy, this piece is designed to bring wonder and liminality for those walking below. We are thankful to the The Wabash Lights arts organization who brought us, and co-managed this public art opportunity.
The lighting animations play throughout the night and automatically cycle through a variety of patterns, abstract 3D shapes, and color gradients. Arbor Lights interactivity is in the hands of participants, we designed a custom SMS platform that allows them to message the installation, changing the course of lighting animations. All they have to do is send a text message to the number 312-626-7592, using a list of commands that are listed on a sign by the tree.
To change the color, text a color such as red to 312-626-7592.
To change the shape, text a shape like box.
For a combo, text shape and color.
