BRC SEWING CIRCLE

BRC Sewing Circle is a proposed project set to debut at Burning Man Arts Festival in 2024. The pieece is an ultra-large-scale double-sided quilt made of scrap and reclaimed fabrics. One side is a quilted landscape of Black Rock city at sunrise, constructed by the lead artist, Jewel Sheehan. The reverse side is a community quilt, comprised of a dizzying array of "crazy quilt" block.

The world of fine art has too often relegated art considered "non-masculine" to the realm of craft. This piece seeks to challenge the misogynistic hierarchy that puts craft in a separate, lesser category from fine art.
